Gettysburg Battlefield Community Gardening

Growing history, feeding families!

About the Garden

The Sherfy Farmstead Community Garden is located on the historic battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It is the first of its kind in the area, focusing on raising Civil-War Era heirloom vegetables, herbs, and flowers in a low-impact and appropriate manner. The Sherfy Garden is part of a larger project, a partnership between the Gettysburg Foundation, the National Park Service, and Gettysburg College’s Civil War Institute and Center for Public Service, that hopes to install more community gardens throughout the battlefields. The garden is maintained by community and college volunteers, who take pride in producing locally and sustainably grown food to help nourish low-income members of our community though Campus Kitchens and other food redistribution centers in the area.
